On 8 November 2010, the UK's Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) officially announced that it would open its carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) demonstration program to natural-gas-fired power plants. The country's CCS demonstration program is seeking to provide financial support for up to four large-scale CCS demonstration projects. The first of these projects-expected to be the Longannet coal-fired power station owned by Iberdrola-Scottish Power-has received a £1 billion funding commitment from the UK government. Action on electricity market reform, including details related to CCS support for the remaining three projects, is expected to be finalized in spring 2011.
