On 12 August 2010, Austria-based Andritz Hydro announced that it had acquired a 33% stake in Norway-based tidal company Hammerfest Strom. Along with Voith Hydro and Alstom Power, Andritz Hydro is one of the three leading global hydro power original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), which combined account for over 80% of the global hydro power equipment market. In May 2008, Andritz bolstered its position in the global hydro industry by purchasing GE Energy's hydro business, and has a presence in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Brazil, India, and Canada. Andritz is also the global market leader for hydro turbine supply in the <15 MW segment.
