Enviva Fuels US Biomass Supply Chain Growth

January 5, 2012

On 30 November 2011, Maryland, US-based Enviva LP announced plans to build a 454,000 metric ton per year (TPY) wood pellet manufacturing facility in Courtland, Virginia, targeting start-up in 2013. The plant will be Enviva's fifth and largest facility under ownership. Key trends in this On Point include:

  • Enviva scales wood pellet production to capture EU biomass demand.
  • Enviva seeks to remove bottlenecks to biomass power plant development, but EU policies remain uncertain.
  • JV with Conoco marks major step toward commercial torrefaction.
  • EU demand fuels Enviva's position to capture potential US opportunity in the longer term.
