UK Legislation Fires Up Biomass Plans

December 12, 2011

On 20 October 2011, the UK's Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) issued a consultation process to revise the Renewable Obligation (RO) banding mechanism in England and Wales. Among the key modifications proposed, financial support will increase for biomass co-firing generation, offshore wind, and tidal. Support will be reduced for onshore wind starting in 2013 and for dedicated biomass in 2016. Consultation will close in January 2012 and the new RO banding is expected to be passed into law in spring 2012.
