Financial Players Prop Up T-Solar, Europe PV

August 2, 2011

On 18 July 2011, T-Solar sold 49% of its 168 MW solar PV portfolio to Munich Re's asset management group MEAG (37%) and private equity investor KKR (12%) for an undisclosed amount. T-Solar had invested over €1 billion in the PV plants (160 MW in Spain and 8 MW in Italy). As part of an expansion plan, T-Solar has begun construction on 5 MW in India and has secured financing for 20 MW in Peru: the company aims to surpass 500 MW of installed PV in 2014. Key trends in this On Point include:

  • Isolux Corsán's cash injection revitalizes T-Solar.
  • Private equity reinforces the PV market.
  • PV deal flow picks up in Southern Europe.
