Q1 2012 North America Solar Power Market Update

Key trends in this Quarterly Update include:

  • IHS EER estimates that Q1 2012 solar installations were approximately 456 MW.
  • Ontario lowered its feed-in tariff (FIT) by over 20% and proposed restrictions on future solar photovoltaic (PV) siting.
  • Utah loosened restrictions on commercial-scale solar PV with the passage of Senate Bill 12, which allows a customer to buy renewable power from a non-utility company.
  • Connecticut launched a 30 MW residential solar PV program backed by US$40 million in funding.
  • Merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in Q1 2012 remained vibrant, with 14 deals struck that collectively involved 354 MW of projects under development and 31 MW of operating projects.
