Spain Curbs its Remaining PV Enthusiasm

August 23, 2010

On 30 July 2010, Spain's Ministry of Industry and Tourism (MITYC) proposed to alter solar PV feed-in tariffs (FITs) under decree RD1578/2008. The proposal, which is expected to be ratified, will reduce the PV FIT by 45% for ground-based systems, 25% for rooftop systems >20 kW in size, and 5% for rooftop systems <20 kW in size. The rates (€0.14/kWh, €0.22/kWh, and €0.31/kW, respectively) apply to projects awarded in the Q4 2010 pre-registration round. The cuts will not apply to projects that have been pre-registered to date. PV plants installed under the previous incentive regime (RD661/2007) will no longer be eligible for the FIT beyond 25 years.
