Growth Projections Drive Indian Wind Manufacturing Surge

June 1, 2011

India has seen an unprecedented surge of supply-side wind sector investments since March 2011. During this time, at least five original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) have announced new turbine assembly plants; Gamesa, Siemens, and Kenersys alone plan to invest Rs 820 crore (US$184 million) through 2013. Key trends in this On Point include:

  • Expected wind market ramp-up, demand for larger turbines attracting new suppliers.
  • New entrants look to cut costs through local manufacturing.
  • Supply chain and assembly base build-out yield strong export opportunities.
