Taller Towers Rise To Meet US Demand

July 2, 2012

On 13 April 2012, South Carolina-based Tindall Corporation received certification from Germanischer Lloyd (GL) for a new wind tower foundation design, the ATLAS Concrete Tower Base (CTB). The ATLAS CTB is designed to raise the base of a conventional welded steel tower 30 to 40 meters off the ground, for a total hub height of up to 130 meters. Key trends in this On Point include:

  • US developers and manufacturers begin shift to taller towers.
  • New technologies aim to reduce costs and enable further tower growth.
  • Taller tower deployment will remain steady over the near term.
