Winds of Change Blow Through Polish GC Market

July 3, 2012

On 2 July 2012, Gamesa announced the sale of its 14 MW Krzecin wind project in Pomerania, Poland. The sale to German utility RWE marks the second project sale in Poland by Gamesa to RWE in 18 months for a total of 46 MW. The Krzecin project sale is part of a broader wave of recent activity for wind power generators to nail down operating assets and/or mature pipelines before project returns are compromised. Key trends in this On Point include:

  • Policy uncertainty redefines near-term market attractiveness.
  • Opportunity shake-out continues.
  • Poland becomes both a growth platform and a battleground for OEMs.
