Eduard Sala de Vedruna, Research Director
Eduard Sala de Vedruna is a Research Director for Renewable Power Advisory Service, IHS Energy Insight, in the Global Wind Power Advisory Group. Based in Barcelona, Mr. Sala de Verdruna delivers competitive strategy and market analysis on key trends and market opportunities to leading developers and utilities in the European wind industry. Prior to joining IHS EER, he worked was a market research analyst and consultant at International Venture Consultants where he developed his energy expertise. He holds a degree in economics from the University of Barcelona.

Marc Mühlenbach, Senior Analyst
Marc Mühlenbach is a Senior Analyst for IHS EER's Global Wind Power service, providing market research and analysis on the European wind energy market environments since 2008. Prior to joining IHS EER, Marc worked as a freelancer and translator. He researched a thesis on energy policy and wind energy while working in Texas. He holds an MSc in Global Politics from the London School of Economics as well as an MA in Philosophy from the New School for Social Research and a BA in Literature from the American University of Paris. Marc is currently also an MBA candidate at IE Business School and is based in IHS EER's Barcelona office.

Magnus Dale, Analyst
Magnus Dale is an Analyst for IHS EER's Global Wind Power service, providing research on Europe's wind energy market environment and industry strategies, working in qualitative and quantitative analysis prior to joining IHS. He holds an advanced degree in French and European History from Université Paul-Valéry, Montpellier, France, a BSc in Mathematics and Informatics from the University of Tromso, Norway and an MSc in Statistics from London Metropolitan University, UK. Magnus speaks Norwegian, English and French and is based is based in IHS EER's Barcelona office.

North America Renewable Power

Alex Klein, Research Director
Alex Klein, Director, Research, manages the IHS Renewable Power Advisory Service, IHS Energy Insight, which focuses on analyzing trends across the Americas renewables sector. Mr. Klein has managed and authored several in-depth market studies on European and North America power markets, including on renewable energy policies, geothermal, wind, ocean energy, integrated gasification combined-cycle, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and transmission. Mr. Klein and his team have projected long-term future power capacity and generation until 2025, with outlooks for renewables penetration in over 40 countries globally based on a comprehensive analysis of market fundamentals, industry structure, and energy policies. Mr. Klein has also led research analyzing levelized cost of electricity in North America.

His team actively tracks offtake prices and investment costs in the power industry, including for conventional power, and renewables, and analyzes the cost-competitiveness of emerging technologies in a carbon-constrained environment. For leading sources of private equity, Mr. Klein has provided independent technology appraisals of novel biomass and renewable technologies. He also provided advice and briefings to the UK government on strategy for increasing the take-up of biomass and waste infrastructure in the context of meeting renewable energy and climate change obligations.

Mr. Klein has 10 years of consulting and research experience in the energy sector, with a focus on renewables market and technology analysis. Prior to joining IHS EER, he was a senior analyst at Juniper Consultancy Services in the United Kingdom, where he conducted a range of market studies, independent assessments, and critical appraisals of regulatory and technology trends related to clean and renewable energy. Mr. Klein holds a BS from the University of Vermont and an MS from Columbia University, which focused on carbon management, carbon storage, novel renewable technologies, and carbon capture technologies.

James Saeger, Director
James Saeger, Director, Research, Renewable Power Advisory Service, IHS Energy Insight, leads research on North American renewables supply and demand, pricing, and policies. Additional areas of expertise include high voltage transmission planning and development as well as renewables costs and financing. Prior to joining IHS EER, Dr. Saeger was in equity research focusing on the energy and financial sectors at Ameriprise Financial's RiverSource Investments. Before moving into financial research and analysis, Dr. Saeger held teaching positions at Vassar College, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Saeger holds an AB from Dartmouth College, an MA and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation from the CFA Institute.

Matthew Kaplan, Associate Director
Matthew Kaplan is Associate Director, Renewable Power Advisory Service, IHS Energy Insight, is an expert in North America renewable power. Mr. Kaplan has over five years of consulting and research experience in the power sector, with a focus on wind energy markets. He focuses on the strategies of utilities, developers, and wind turbine manufacturers in North America and contributes competitive intelligence and analysis to IHS EER's North America Renewable Power Advisory Service. He has also led or contributed more than a dozen comprehensive market studies analyzing the competitive strategies employed within the onshore, offshore, and supply chain wind markets. Prior to joining IHS EER, Mr. Kaplan worked on the first US offshore wind project, Cape Wind. He holds a degree from Wheaton College.

Andy Lubershane, Senior Analyst
Andy Lubershane is a Senior Analyst for IHS EER's North America Renewable Power and Global Wind advisory services. Andy focuses on wind energy development in the US, Canada, and Mexico, with an emphasis on power market dynamics and grid integration. Prior to joining IHS, Andy taught in a public middle school, and then worked for a non-profit municipal energy advisor. He holds a BA in Government from Wesleyan University and a masters degree in Natural Resource Economics from the University of Michigan and is based in IHS EER's Cambridge, MA office.

Matthew DaPrato, Senior Analyst
Matt DaPrato is a Senior Analyst for IHS EER's North America Wind Energy Advisory service. Matt conducts research and strategic analysis of wind energy technologies, market dynamics, and competitive positioning. He recently co-authored an in-depth market study, US Wind Power Markets and Strategies: 2011-2025, which analyzed the current market dynamics driving wind energy development, evaluated the strategies of project developers, utilities, turbine manufacturers, and policy makers in analyzing the industry's long-term growth outlook. Matt holds degrees in History and Political Science from Boston College, where he focused on public policy development in the United States, and international political relations and is based in IHS EER's Cambridge, MA office.

Nate Gagnon, Senior Analyst, Mergers & Acquisitions
Nate Gagnon is a Senior Analyst at IHS EER responsible for maintaining the company's M&A database and for providing insight and analysis into transactions and trends across the renewable energy industry. Prior to joining IHS EER, Nate worked in a similar capacity at IHS Herold. He holds an MS in Environmental Science and a BS in Biology from the SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry and is based in IHS EER's Washington, DC office.

Wade Shafer, Analyst
Wade is an Analyst with IHS EER's North America Renewable Power Advisory service. He focuses his research on the North American downstream PV industry and policy environment. Wade began working in the solar industry while in college, when he interned with a start-up solar developer and analyzed US markets and locations for mega-PV projects. Prior to joining IHS, Wade worked in the Technology and Communications Practice Group at Patton Boggs LLP, a law firm based in Washington, DC, as a paralegal. There he assisted attorneys with regulatory compliance and high-profile cases at the Federal Communications Commission. Wade holds a BS in Economics from The George Washington University and is based in IHS EER's Washington, DC office.

Keith Hays, Research Director
Keith Hays is Director, Research, Renewable Power Advisory Service, with IHS Energy Insight and heads the Europe, Middle East, Africa/Asia Pacific market insight and consulting services dedicated to clean power technologies. Mr. Hays is a founding partner of IHS EER and since 2003 has provided strategic analysis and recommendations to leading power producers, project developers, equipment suppliers, financial institutions, and policymakers in the energy industry with a focus on competitive strategy in renewable energy. Mr. Hays has led his team of research colleagues to produce over 40 comprehensive regional and global studies on clean and renewable energy markets, offering 10 regional and technology-specific insight services covering all utility-scale clean power technologies.

Prior to joining IHS EER, Mr. Hays developed market strategies as a management consultant at DiamondCluster Consulting (now Oliver Wyman) and carried out European research for Pyramid Research, a telecommunications research and advisory company. Fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, Mr. Hays holds a BA from Columbia University and an MBA from IESE Business School.

Marianne Boust, Associate Director
Marianne Boust, Associate Director, Renewable Power Advisory Service, IHS Energy Insight is an expert with the Europe Renewable Power Advisory Service. She focuses mainly on utilities' strategies in a carbon-constrained environment and provides expertise related to global carbon policies and ocean energy market development. Prior to joining IHS EER Ms. Boust worked for French oil and gas company Total as a financial analyst in Paris and then as an economist in Bangkok, Thailand. She holds an MBA from ESSEC Business School, Paris.

Josefin Berg, Senior Analyst
Josefin Berg is a Senior Analyst for IHS EER's Europe Renewable Power Advisory service, where she performs market research and analysis of trends and competitive strategies across the European PV value chain. Prior to joining IHS EER, Josefin was an R&D strategy consultant at Bax & Willems, mainly in the field of cleantech and renewable energies. She holds an MS in Environmental Engineering from Uppsala University, Sweden. She speaks English, French, Spanish and Swedish and is based in IHS EER's Barcelona office.

Emerging Renewable Power Markets

Silvia Macri, Analyst
Silvia Macri is an Analyst, covering renewable power projects and policies in Africa and Middle East. She has international experience in analysis and communication, having been based in the Middle East for over 5 years before joining the IHS Emerging Energy Research office in Barcelona in October 2011. Silvia covers renewable power policy trends in the region, dealing with emerging renewable strategies in the Middle Eastern and African markets. Her research scope includes all renewable power technologies' options. Prior to joining EER, Silvia was an energy researcher and journalist for the Middle East Economic Survey (MEES), based in Beirut, Lebanon. Her research focused on the Middle East energy markets, particularly in Lebanon, Syria, Iran, UAE, Qatar, Oman and Yemen. Silvia holds a BA in International Relations from the Bologna University (Italy) and a Master's degree in Arab Gulf Studies from the University of Exeter (UK). She is based in Barcelona and speaks Italian, English, Spanish, French and has a basic knowledge of Arabic and is based in IHS EER's Barcelona office.
