Solar Spotlight Shines on France, EDF

Strategic initiatives by French policymakers and France’s state-owned utility EDF have aligned to revive Europe’s embattled solar PV industry. The French government has announced a proposal to provide new incentives for large-scale PV rooftop installations, and plans to tender the construction of several large-scale ground-based PV plants throughout the country. Two months ago, French renewable energy IPP EDF-EN undertook a €500 million capital increase to expand its activities in the solar PV segment. This investment, combined with the government’s revised PV incentive scheme, will ignite the French PV market and will position EDF-EN as an emerging PV leader.
